Goodbye Metabolic Resistance, Hello Weight Loss
Lindsey Root - Thursday, January 07, 2010
Happy Low Carb Thursday! :-) I woke up this morning and weighed and was so excited to see that I have lost a total of 5 pounds in 3 days. I gained 4 pounds over the holidays, so it's great to lose that weight and an extra pound. I'm going to do the "Fat Fat" for it least one more day, maybe more. I've lost 29lbs total in 7 months by eating low carb! I'm living low carb and loving it! Goodbye Metabolic Resistance, Hello Weight Loss!
New Low Carb Approach: Atkins Fat Fast
Lindsey Root - Thursday, January 07, 2010
"When one approach is not working to reach the desired goal, that's not a reason to abandon the goal. Instead, it is time to devise another approach." -Ralph Marston
This quote is what motivated me to take that step to try a different low carb, weight loss approach. Because I have hypothyroidism, weight loss can seem daunting at times, but it’s not hopeless. As I’ve said many times before, this is my weight loss journey with no ending. Once I reach my goal than I’m on a journey to maintain my weight. Every body is different and different approaches work for different people. Don’t lose hope and quit if your current plan is not working, take it and make it work.
For me I know low carb works best, but I’ve noticed the closer and closer I get to my goal the tougher and tougher it gets to reaching it. It would be easy to lose hope and quit, but why throw away all of the hard work I’ve done in the last 7 months to only find that dark, anxious, depressed, overweight person that I never want to know or see again! Quitting is not an option! Don't ever let it become one! I'm ready to find the new me and I know it's going to happen this year. :-) It can happen for you too! Don't ever give up your hopes, goals, and dreams. I believe in you and now it's time for you to believe in yourself!
Please share your story with me. We are all in this weight loss journey together. What keeps you motivated to reach your goal? What changes have you had to make to stick to your healthy lifestyle? Thanks for reading! Please feel free to comment below.

Fat Fast
Lindsey Root - Sunday, January 03, 2010
It's the first week of
the New Year so I'm going to do something new for a couple of days. I'm
going to follow the "Fat Fast" for 3-4 days and than go right back to
following the Induction Phase. The "Fat Fast" was created by Dr Atkins for people who struggle losing
weight while even following a low carb lifestyle. My weight loss came
off fast in the beginning but now I've hit a stall and I'm ready to
break it. He recommended following it for 4-5 days to kick the body
back into fat burning mode to promote weight loss, curbed appetite,
and give positive lipolysis testing strips. I'm going to do it for 3-4
days and than go back to eating Induction friendly food. As stated in
Dr Atkins' New Diet Revolution book: "The "Fat Fast" is a controlled
carb program where you have to count calories. You eat 1000 calories a
day with seventy-five to ninety percent fat." You eat 5x a day with
each meal being around 200 calories. He lists some choices to eat
during the "Fat Fast" in his book in Chapter 20 called Metabolic
Resistance: Causes and Solutions. It's a new year and I'm ready to find
the new me for good! I will let you know how the fat fast goes each
day. What are you doing this week to start your New Year off right?
Happy New Year!

It's that time of year when we all feel more motivated than ever to get into the gym and lose weight. I've lost 28lbs total in 6 months and 3 weeks by eating low carb and I'm ready to lose the rest in 2010. I'm working on my New Years Resolution list, so as soon as I finish it I will share it with you. Sorry this blog is short and sweet! Happy 2010! What is your New Years Resolution?
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends!
Words are Powerful!
Lindsey Root - Monday, December 21, 2009
I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written here. These last 3 months have been full of changes occupationally, emotionally, and physically. Despite all of the changes, I’m so glad to tell you that I’ve stuck to my low carb lifestyle. Time has flown by so quickly and it’s amazing to me that I’ve been eating low carb for 6 months and a week and I’ve lost 28lbs total. You never realize how much weight impacts every part of your life until you start shedding the pounds and regaining the confidence and happiness that you had lost with the weight gain.
I have 17 more pounds that I want to lose to be at my goal weight. Once I hit that number I’m going to continue doing what I’m doing and if I stay there I will be thrilled and if my body wants to lose more weight I’ll be thrilled. I’ve never consistently followed a diet to where it became a lifestyle and so I’ve never really known an accurate “goal” weight.
One thing I want to share with you that I hope you take to heart is to love yourself. No matter what size you are, it’s so easy to want to hide behind baggy clothes, and for some reason we feel like those clothes make us invisible to the world. Don’t wait to look your best until you reach your goal weight. Wake up everyday and walk with confidence because you were created beautifully from the inside out no matter what the number on the scale tells you. I know that when I was at my heaviest weight, I felt fat and ugly in everything I wore, and though I’m still not at my “goal” weight, looking back I wish I would’ve built myself up with more positive thoughts and carried myself with more confidence.
When I was starting out at my heaviest weight (which was 3 ½ years ago), everyday I would look in the mirror in disgust and tell myself that I looked so fat and ugly. I wish I could slap myself in the face for how many times I told myself that and turn those negative thoughts into positive ones. This is the worst thing you can do to yourself when you are starting out on your weight loss journey. When I started losing weight, than I started feeling better about myself. I still felt fat and ugly, but I took those negative thoughts and told myself that I CAN lose the weight and I WON’T let those negative thoughts define me.
The more and more weight I lose, the more confidence I gain which makes me feel so much happier. I’ve always been a very happy person who loves to be around people, but it’s so sad how weight can diminish happiness and confidence if you let it. I try to find something about myself everyday that I can say I’m thankful for or that I think is beautiful about myself. It’s not easy AT ALL, but when I tell myself those positive words its amazing how I start feeling what I’m telling myself. Words are powerful! They can build someone up or knock someone down. Stop tearing yourself down with negative words and instead build yourself up with beauty.
Whatever stage you are at in your weight loss journey, remember to take it one day at a time and don’t ever give up. Giving up is no longer an option. If you slip up then move on. It’s behind you and tomorrow is another day to make better choices. There are so many times that we slip up and feel so guilty and so we just throw in the towel and give up because we think we can’t do it. Remember to never, Never, NEVER GIVE UP!!! Believe in yourself and you will accomplish your dreams and goals. Thank you for reading! Please feel free to share your own weight loss experience below.

Holiday Weight Gain?
Lindsey Root - Tuesday, December 01, 2009
My husband and I arrived back home in Dallas late Sunday night after spending most of the Thanksgiving week in Oklahoma with family. We had a wonderful time! I'm so thankful for all of the amazing people in my life. You bless my life and fill my heart with joy! It was sad to leave family and close friends, but it was so great to come home to our sweet puppies, Tucker and Ginger. They are the best dogs in the world! I'm very thankful for them too!
I'm excited to share that I somehow made it through the holiday without splurging or gaining any weight AT ALL! I thought it was going to be pretty tough, but for some reason it wasn't. I told myself that this is just like any other day. I'm used to eating low carb while everyone else eats whatever they want, so I didn't look at Thanksgiving day and differently. If you tell yourself something long enough, it's amazing how you truly start to believe it! LOL! Anyway, I'm glad to be back home in Dallas and excited to see what this month brings. I would love to be close to or at my goal weight by the end of the year, so I'm trying to see what I need to do to get there.
How was your Thanksgiving? What goals are you trying to achieve by the end of the year? Please feel free to comment below. I love hearing from you! :-)
