Atkins Fat Fast-Day 1

Lindsey Root - Thursday, July 29, 2010

I started the Atkins Fat Fast today and it went great!  The amazing part of this fast so far is I'm not hungry at all and I have lots of energy.  I know it's just my first day but I'm trying to remain positive about this experience because it makes it a lot easier to continue.  I'm just going to take it one day at a time and I'm hoping to wake up and see the scale drop!  I will keep you posted on the results of the Fat Fast. Wish me luck!

Atkins Fat Fast: Round 2

Lindsey Root - Wednesday, July 28, 2010

This past January I hit a stall and decided to try to Atkins Fat Fast to lose weight. I successfully lost 7lbs in 4 days and was thrilled! I'm not going to lie and say the fat fast was easy because it's not, but I've hit a weight point that I can't seem to break no matter what I do. I've kept my carb intake between 20-30 grams per day and I've even been trying to workout consistently. I'm working out 3-5 days a week. I typically workout for 1 hour-1 1/2 hours total. In that time frame, I do 30 mins-1 hour of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training every day that I work out. It's very frustrating!

I've noticed my body is very comfortable weighing anywhere in the 140s. It seems as if I've hit a weight set point that I can't seem to break. My goal weight is 115-120lbs which is what I weighed most of my life until I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2006. I'm determined to break this stall and even seeking medical treatment for additional help.

I'm not sure how long I'm going to do the Fat Fast, but I'm going to try to do it for it least 4 days, maybe 5 days. I'm excited to see what kind of weight loss results I can achieve this time around. I'm hoping to come out of this fast eating high fat, unprocessed, natural low carb food. I think my worst enemy has been dairy, cheese, and processed low carb food. I can't wait to tell you how it goes! Wish me luck!

Have you ever done the Atkins Fat Fast before? If so, I would love to hear how it worked to help you break a stall and lose weight. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas. I love to hear from you! :-)

Homestyles Low Carb Chili

Lindsey Root - Tuesday, July 27, 2010

If you are looking for delicious low carb Chili then look no more. Homestyles Chili makes the best chili I've tasted in a LONG time. It only has 4 net carbs and it's loaded with 26 grams of protein per box.  Sometimes it can be hard to find quick and easy meals when you are living low carb, but what I really like about the Homestyles Chili is it's completely microwaveable. It quick, easy, and affordable! They cost $2.69 per box and offer 3 portable portions: Beef Chili with Beans, Beef Chili with Steak and Beans, and Chicken Chili with Beans.  I was really skeptical at first, but after reading the positive reviews on netrition.com I couldn't wait to try it. If you miss having soup on a low carb diet, then I really recommend you buy and try some of this chili. You won't be disappointed!

You can buy and try this product at LC Homestyles or netrition.com

Journey to Break the Plateau

Lindsey Root - Friday, June 11, 2010

I’m about 20lbs away from my goal weight and I’ve been stuck at this plateau of 142-145lbs for about 4-5 months. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to break it long-term. Three months ago, I followed the Atkins Fat Fast for about a week and had great success and was very excited to get down to 135lbs. I jumped right into the Induction Phase of Atkins afterwards and probably should have slowly added more food back in over time. I kept off a couple of the pounds but gained most of them back.

One of our client’s recently introduced me to a weight loss aid to help boost my energy levels, suppress my appetite, and help increase my metabolism. Losing weight for me is a challenge in itself since I have hypothyroidism, so I was hopeful that this might help. I received 2 Medical SlimShots in a 2 week period of time and it really did help my energy levels. I haven’t lost any more weight, but I’m thankful that it gave me the energy I needed to hit it hard in the gym. Please feel free to watch my latest Medical SlimShot adventure.

I’m still continuing my low carb, weight loss journey and know that I will reach my goal weight someday soon.  I'm frustrated with my current weight loss situation, but I'm not giving up! I've lost 30 pounds total in one year and I'm determined to lose the last 20 pounds within the next few months.  Have you ever hit a plateau before? What did you do to successfully break it for the long-term? Please feel free to share your comments below. I love hearing and learning from you!  Thanks for reading!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend! :-)

Reaching That Magical Number

Lindsey Root - Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Do you have a magical number set in your mind that if you could only reach that number then you would look and feel beautiful?  I know for me it seems that once I reach that number then I will feel happy and confident, but why can't I feel that way now?  It's stupid… I know!

So… what is your magical number?  Mine is 120lbs, and it seems so far away.  Right now my weight is fluctuating between 142-145lbs. There are days when I get very discouraged and feel depressed about not being at my goal weight, but at the same time, I just want to be healthy and learn to eat healthy for a lifetime.

I've started a new fitness routine and it has been great!  I'm trying to focus more on the changes I'm seeing in my body instead of the number on the scale.  In fact... if you've been following me at all along the way, you know that I absolutely hate the scale, but really who doesn't?!  LOL!  I think everyone hates the scale until they reach that magical number that says... you know what... you're not fat anymore!

We need to stop putting so much emphasis on that "magical" number and focus more on our health, how we feel, and what we look like in the mirror, not on what the number says on the scale.  We all need to stop dieting and start living as weight watchers says. DON'T LET THE SCALE DICTATE YOUR SUCCESS!!!

Please feel free to share any comments or tips.  I love hearing from you!  Have a wonderful day!

Low Carb Living Ups and Downs

Lindsey Root - Monday, May 24, 2010
It has been almost 8 months since I left my job as a pharmaceutical sales rep to work with my husband! I can't even believe it has been that long!  The year has flown by so quickly.  It has been so much fun working with my husband, but it definitely presents different challenges that I'm learning to overcome.

Owning your own business has wonderful benefits, but at the same time it has a lot of stress that comes along with it.  Learning how to flip the switch from business woman to wife has been difficult but I'm getting better at it everyday.  Although it's wonderful working together, it's hard knowing when to stop working and just enjoy each others presence.  Just like any lifestyle change, you must overcome the obstacles in order to successfully reach your goals.

I realized after talking to my mom today, that it has been a couple of months since I've written a blog updating my journey!  So here is the latest...I've been living low carb for 11 months and counting.  It's amazing to me that it has almost been a year!  The best part about this whole journey is learning what works and what doesn't work along the way.

Right now I'm focusing more on eating "clean", natural, unprocessed food and working out 5 days a week.  I know that if I want to reach my goal weight and feel confident in the mirror, I need to tone up my body.  So my biggest question for you.... have you ever hit a plateau along your journey and if so what did you do to overcome it?  I'm currently fluctuating between 142-145lbs and I'm tired of it!!!  Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading and please feel free to share your story and tips!  I love hearing from you!  :-)

Is Eating Low Carb Unhealthy?

Lindsey Root - Thursday, March 25, 2010

I wanted to share some exciting news with you! Last week I went to the doctor for a checkup and had my blood drawn to check my cholesterol, triglycerides, etc. You know you can lose weight eating low carb, but the biggest question I get from people... Is eating low carb healthy? Well why don't you check the results for yourself to see whether or not eating low carb for 9 months and 2 1/2 weeks has been healthy or unhealthy! ;-) Check out my results here: Blood Test Results I was thrilled with the results! It just proves that eating low carb is not only wonderful for losing weight, but also to get healthy.

Time for Eggs-ellence

Lindsey Root - Wednesday, March 24, 2010

When things aren’t working, it’s time to change. A couple of months ago I completed the Atkins Fat Fast for a week with a lot of weight loss success and so I’m going to try a similar plan that my friend Jimmy Moore is currently doing to lose weight. He’s eating a diet made up of eggs, butter, cheese, and cream cheese. He’s taking in around 2000 calories a day and is doing a great job losing weight.  To see what Jimmy Moore is currently eating check out his menu blog here: Jimmy Moore's Meal Blog  I’m going to try this Egg Fast too and see if it will help me lose more weight. I’m determined to reach my goal weight soon and I’m tired of my weight getting stalled and fluctuating. I will keep you posted on my weight loss success and how this EGGS-ellent Fast is working.

Refocus to Move Ahead

Lindsey Root - Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Do you ever get frustrated during your weight loss journey because you are not losing weight or maybe even worse… you are gaining weight? That is something I have been struggling with lately and I’m trying to do any and everything I can to lose more weight. It’s so easy to get discouraged and want to quit. When I start feeling this way, I just try to remind myself that the only thing I have to gain by quitting is weight, and I know deep down that is the last thing I want to do to myself.

While I was at the office working today, I was thinking about how my weight loss has been a journey with lots of ups and downs along the way. Many times I think back on my life when I was skinny and happy and I get discouraged and depressed, but I know that you can’t move forward when you are always looking back, so I’m trying to refocus myself on the goals that I want to achieve and am determined to achieve.

I’ve been living low carb now for 9 months and 2 weeks and have lost a total of 30lbs. Right now my weight is fluctuating anywhere from 135lbs-143lbs. My goal weight is 120lbs, which was a healthy weight for me before I started struggling and gained all of my weight in 2006. I would love for my weight to be anywhere from 115lbs-120lbs, but I’m just taking it one day at a time. I would love to reach my goal weight by June 8, 2010 because that will be my one-year anniversary from when I started living low carb.

What motivates you to keep going when you get discouraged in your weight loss journey?
What changes have you made in your eating/exercise routine to help you lose weight again?

Life With The New Atkins and P90X

Lindsey Root - Friday, March 12, 2010
Hey everyone!  I hope you are doing fantastic!  First off, I want to start off by apologizing to you!  I'm so sorry I've been so inconsistent with my blog posts lately.  Running a business with my husband has been such a great, but time consuming adventure.  One thing I can share with you is that I'm so thankful to be out of corporate america!  I don't miss the high pressure and high stress that came along with the job, but now my time has been completely consumed with running our business, but to be honest I couldn't be happier.

Guess what?!......I've been living low carb for 9 MONTHS!!!  I can't even believe it!  It feels like just yesterday that I started living my low carb lifestyle.  As I discussed in the past, slow and steady wins the race and that is definitely the pace my weight loss has decided to take right now.  My weight has been stalled for about 2 months now, but don't worry, I'm still pressing forward and doing any and everything I can to lose more weight and reach my goal.

Since my weight loss has slowed down I've been trying to add more exercise into my daily routine to help me lose more weight and tone up.  My husband and I started doing the home video workout system called P90X.  We have been doing it everyday since March 1 and it feels really great!  As a female, there is always some emotional hesitancy to add weight training into our exercise routine because there is always a fear of bulking up and gaining weight instead of slimming down, but I truly believe that weight training is essential in losing weight and toning up.  Just remember that the more muscle you have, the more fat your body will burn without doing anything.  I'm going to continue this process of lowcarbing with P90X for the entire 90 days and then of course continue lowcarbing and maybe do P90X again.

In addition to the P90X routine, I've started the new Induction Phase of Atkins in the newly released book called THE NEW AKTINS FOR A NEW YOU.  I read the book last weekend and I completely recommend it!  It's a more updated approach to a low carb lifestyle.  They basically took Dr Atkins model and built on it.  If you read it please let me know what you think.  Anyway, I'm 4 days into the new Induction Phase of Atkins and 1 week and 4 days into the P90X workout.  I'm hoping that the combination of these two will work hand and hand.  Wish me luck!  I will keep you posted! :-)

So now I want to hear from you!

*What have you done in the past to break a weight loss stall?
*Have you ever done P90X before?  If so, what did you think of the program?
*Have you read THE NEW ATKINS FOR A NEW YOU?  If so, what did you think about it?
*What workout routine worked best for you to help you lose weight and tone up?

Have an awesome Friday and a great weekend!  I love and appreciate each and everyone of you!
