Are you a pro yo-yo dieter like me? I think I could win an award for how many diet books I’ve read, how many different diets I’ve attempted, and how I’ve lost the same 20-30 pounds over and over again throughout the last 5 years. Does this sound familiar to you? Are you sick of being the biggest yo-yo dieter around? I AM!!! So here I am overweight and out of shape again and ready to lose the weight and get healthy for once and for all.

I have decided to no longer make excuses for “just one more cheat day” because I am on a journey to find the new, healthy me. Gaining weight seems like it happens overnight, but we all know that that’s not the case. One day you wake up and look in the mirror and realize, “Wow! When did I get so fat? I don’t even recognize myself.” This is where my story begins…

My name is Lindsey Root and I’m 27 years old. Five years ago, I started gaining weight. I mean a lot of weight! I had never struggled with my weight before this time. In about 4-5 months, I put on 60 pounds! I didn’t know what was going on because most of my life I had weighed around 120lbs consistently. I scheduled an appointment with my doctor to see what was going on with my body. He ran some blood tests, and my blood work revealed that I had hypothyroidism. He started me on thyroid medication and told me to eat healthy. I had done the Atkins diet successfully in the past to lose a few pounds for cheerleading competitions, so I decided to give it another try. When it comes to picking the right diet for your body, you have to choose something that you can stick with for the long run. I love the food choices I get to eat on the Atkins Diet and so I knew it was something that I could maintain long-term.

Over the last 5 years, my weight has been up and down. I have tried every quick fix possible, which always resulted with me failing in the end. Two years ago, I decided that if I wanted to succeed in my weight loss journey, I had to hold myself accountable. That’s when I started my blog, Low Carb Lindsey. I knew if I openly shared my journey with everyone I could not let myself or others down. I’m going to be honest with you, I was so scared that people would look down on me for being fat, but to my surprise there were so many other people around the world who were going through the same challenges as me. If you are having a tough time losing weight, I want you to focus everyday on progress, not perfection. No one is expected to be perfect! If you fall down and have a bad day, week, or month just get back up and keep on moving forward. The only thing you have to gain by quitting is weight, so don't look back at your past failures, look forward to achieving your goals and dreams and before you know it, they will be standing right in front of you.
